SKIN CARE: THE TOXICITY IN DEODORANTS

28/1/2016

On Qi Club’s Blog, you can find a series of articles that talk about skin care for a very important reason; your skin is the largest organ in your body, and therefore being conscious of the chemicals you put on your skin, is just as important as the food you consume.

In the past we talked about cosmetics, hair dye, lotions etc. What we did not talk about was deodorant. Most people use deodorant once or more times daily, and for this reason it is important to make sure the deodorant you put on is not the kind that feeds toxins to your body.

Parabens, aluminium compounds, silica, triclosan, talc, propylene glycol, steareth-n are some common ingredients that you will find on the labels of the average deodorant you buy at your local grocery store. These chemicals have been found to cause allergies, liver damage, kidney damage and irritation. The one common denominator that all these chemicals have is… I bet your guessed it already- cancer. All the ingredients listed above have either a carcinogen compound, or are somehow associated with a form of cancer (i.e. parabens are associated with breast cancer). As much as the word “carcinogen” seems to be in everything these days, it is simply because any form of toxin, can eventually cause a cellular imbalance. Which is why we want to use products that are toxin-free and that have a regenerative effect on the body.

The fun part is, that you can find natural, toxin free deodorants everywhere these days, or you can even make your own. Today we want to share with you a great (simple and effective) recipe we took from ‘Wellness mama”.

You will need

  1. 6 tbs of coconut oil
  2. ¼ cup of baking soda
  3. ¼ arrowroot
  4. Essential oils

Method:

  1. Mix baking soda and arrowroot.
  2. Mix in coconut oil and mash until it has been mixed in well
  3. Add the essential oil (whatever scent your prefer).
  4. Store in small container.

Let us know how it turned out!

Best,

Juliana A. Duque
